Pet Day

For Pet Day we had to write a story about a certain animal without saying what your animal is in our story. Can you guess what my animal is??

They have a slim streamlined body that helps them glide through the water. Females can grow up 1.7 meters in length. This intelligent creature has 3 black rounded fins, with one perched on top of its back. It has a 2 pointed black tail that helps them reach speeds of 30 km. As time passes, a female can weigh up to 50kg although they weigh under 20kg when they were little. The mammal has petite beady eyes placed on either side of it’s head, a black oval marking covers the area of the eye. It has a short rounded snout that merges with the face. Its blowhole is located directly above the eyes.

Silky smooth skin coats the playful marine mammal. A foggy grey and white colour covers most of the body apart from the fins, tail, underbelly and eye area. These curious creatures have very sensitive skin so you can’t touch them too much.

Whenever they want to find food they use something called echolocation this is when they use high frequency clicks that bounce off surrounding objects and fish. This allows them to find fish that might be hiding in the sand, reefs or murky waters. Despite other species using whistles to communicate this creature communicates with clicks that the human ear cannot hear. Another way they talk to one another by slapping their tails against the water or leaping in the air.

This mammal has a massive personality, one thing they love to do is surf the waves. There babies are more playful than adults, sometimes they can be very curious and swim near people. They are unique because there is less than 100 of their species left. You would often see them leaping and diving in the water or swimming with their pod. Another reason why the are so unique is because they have a rounded dorsal fin rather than a pointy one.

Survival Island

On Monday Years 4-8 had a survival island day. For this we had to come up with 10 items to bring between our teams, like things you can cook or first aid equipment.  The next day we had to come up with points from doing different activities like finishing math on the board. We had to accumulate ten points to trade it in for equipment to help us survive on the island and create a teepee, a stretcher for an injured friend. We also had to make a fire and cook food on it, we cooked sausages, bacon, and and marshmallows. I learnt how to survive with a fire, food and teepee. I enjoyed cooking food on the fire. In my team there was Carey, Charlotte, Thomas,Caitlin and I.

Thursday 31 August 2017

This week we've been doing character writing on someone who is important to us. My goal for this was to describe her as well as a can. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Her brown thin hair with grey streaks never alters-  She relies on her car mirror to check that her hair is partially okay, most of the time it is.
She has Intensely green eyes that hide behind her modest glasses.
Her wrinkles underneath her eyes and stress marks on her forehead reflect her age. Numerous freckles are scattered along her nose and cheeks,Whenever she is going somewhere important she always has glossy pink lipstick on. Her cheeks go a peachy red like a soft pink rose  when she been working hard in the garden.

Whenever Grandma comes across someone she knows she will start talking. She will always talk about the latest thing she's doing like gardening or her recent bowls game. When I stay at her house she always makes me 2-minute noodles and talks to me about what's she's been baking. Normally when I stay there you’ll hear her say ‘Niel’ really loud in her high pitched voice. In her spare time she likes to do a variety of things such as: fixing up hems on clothes, or practising for bowls, watching us grandkids play sport and doing the odd job in her garden.  Grandma has a pretty big garden and see finds time to to keep it under control. She also likes to cook my favourite hedgehog biscuits.

Grandma is known as someone who is helpful and trustful. She is unique because she has so many different hobbies like: gardening, farming, sewing, bowling, cooking even doing the odd puzzle.  Grandma has taught me many skills  like how to bake hedgehogs and garden numerous plants and vegetables. Grandma even does things for other like fixing the hems on clothes and patching up holes, She even fixies ball dresses for other people. Grandma has always been there for me and has taught multiple skills and that to me makes her extraordinary.

Wanaka

I am learning to write a piece of prose-  a sketch with detailed words, about a particular place, that is very important to me I know I have achieved this when I can describe this sketch of the place,in specific detail. To do this I need to:Use specific nouns and Activate the nouns with strong verbs

The smell of petrol burning tickles my nose as I reach for my towel. The murky mountain ranges with a road wrapped around  is hidden with masses of native trees. Numerous boats stretch along the waterfront -bunches of people relaxing alongside. Populous Kowhais spread along the beach as the occasional swing hangs down. Further along there is a substantial creek continuously gushing with pure water.

Friday 4 August 2017

I am learning to write a memoir poem. (This recalls a moment in time from my past that links to an emotion I felt at that time) The emotion I have chosen to link my memoir to is….
In my memoir I describe the scene and situation using strong adjective, nouns and verbs.
I hope you enjoy it.

Deep Cove is usual enough
Misty Clouds surround the mountain ranges  ,  While the dull water  takes it’s course, Keas chirp among the mass of native trees.
An ordinary school doing ordinary things.
The drained dingy powers on,the worthless rods decay in our hands, we try to catch the greedy fish.
Rods winding in, hopeful for a shark
Hopeful, devastated, agitated

But what for?

Holidays

This morning, we wrote 5 basic sentences about our holidays. We looked at a range of different connectives that will improve our writing. A connective is a word that joins sentences, e.g. such as, in spite of, whilst, however etc. Next we spent time improving our 5 basic sentences by using connectives. Do you use connectives in your writing, if so which ones?

Holidays
On the first week of the holidays we went to Australia. We then went to Mooloolaba where we went to the fish markets until it started to rain.We then went paddle boarding in Noosa despite there being no waves. In addition to that we decided to hire a boat and take it around the river front. Whilst we were there went to the State Of Origin although we had no idea how to get there.

100 Word Challenge Week 10

This weeks 100 Word Challenge prompt was ...Now what do I need?... I was focusing on changing the openings of my sentences and using level 4 punctuation. Here is a link to our class blog for awesome ideas for sentence starters.

“Don’t be late going to bed honey!”Julie and Trevor closed the door and trudged down the driveway.Timmy was a greedy kid who always has to get what he wants, he never took ‘NO’ for an answer. He was a spoilt kid who knew how to get money. But there in the corner of his greedy little eyes was Julie’s credit card. The twinkle in his eyes grew as There in his grimy little hands was the doorway to all the treats in the world!Imaginatively Timmy thought to himself, now what do I need? What should I buy...

Wednesday 28 June 2017

For the past 3 weeks our math has been focused on the Lions Tour. So we have planned a 40 day trip to New Zealand as a Lions fan. My favorite part about this is doing the budgeting.
Here is the link to my Google Sheet.

100 Word Challenge

This weeks 100 Word Challenges prompt was, The weather changed dramatically... This week I was focusing on using semi-colons and using descriptive langue. I hope you enjoy!

The rain continuously drizzled down the old window creating more condensation. The rain was hitting the roof creating a rhythm that I was sick of.I slowly pulled the blanket over me and scuffed my face with warm buttery popcorn. Why did this day have to be so miserable? But then the weather changed dramatically… The rain had stopped ;the condensation on the window disappeared and the sun peaked out from behind the clouds. I quickly jumped in the car and grabbed my togs. The water was so refreshing against my face. This was better than sitting on the couch!

100 Word Challenge Week 8

This weeks prompt was about this photo that we had to tell a story about. There was a creme egg that was pouring out with workers surrounding it. My goal for this week was to hook the reader in and use more interesting language.

Workers watched in despair as the creamy substance leaked out of the the unknown object. Not knowing what to we just stood there. After about a minute of watching it , now ankle deep in this weird sapping texture I had had enough. I gently reached down and scoop the thick substance into my cold hands. The warm creamy liquid  coated my hands in delight. I pulled my hands up to my face and licked the unknown smoothness. The creamy texture attracted my taste buds in satisfaction. What is this heavenly treat? I must share this ravishing object with the world?

100 Word Challenge

Every Monday we have a new creative writing challenge called The 100 Word Challenge. I really enjoyed doing this because it was challenging and a creative why to write.I think that this is a good writing challenge for my learning because It makes me have to think outside of the box to come up with new ideas. This weeks prompt is "The water just keep gushing."

Sailing across the ocean, hearing the sound of the waves crashing against the boat was Luke's life. But he still had to work continuously fixing every niggly thing on the boat. Luke was a very nosey kid so on his breaks he would go exploring. There infront of him was a rustic door with a silver plate that had engraved in big loud letters DO NOT ENTER. This didn’t stop Luke. He bashed and banged with all his might. The door opened and Luke went flying into the wall.Suddenly lights flashed, sirens went but the water just keep gushing...

About Me

This week Miss Blair introduced us to piktochart. We made posters about some things about ourselves for our first blog post.  What I learnt was there are more ways to share your learning than just using docs or slides.I enjoyed making this poster because It was something different and something new to me. If I were to do it again I would probably try using different fonts or icons. I hope you like my poster.
